Lives and works Berlin

Whether they are landscape photographs, jazz music, or ceramics, David Zink Yi’s works are grounded in working with the hands–about the relationship of the body to the object, and the spirit playing with fantasy. The 14th Gwangju Biennale presents Zink Yi’s colourfully glazed sculptures entitled All My Colours 2023. A multitude of serially arranged sculptures are simultaneously reminiscent of samples of materials or glazes, or simply of fish, slugs, or other sea creatures. Each individual part conveys a tone that contributes to the collective sound of this maritime association. Rooted in process-based abstraction and the alchemic possibilities of the artist’s materials, All My Colours creates an enigmatic visual ensemble.
