Lives and works Paris

Soun-Gui Kim merges her interests in philosophy and technology in an interdisciplinary practice that encompasses painting, photography, drawing, video, performance, and installation. For the 14th Gwangju Biennale, Kim is presenting a four-channel video and sound installation titled Gwangju. Poems 2023, produced in collaboration with local students from Chonnam Girls’ High School. The video features students reciting poems by historically significant women writers of the Chosun Dynasty alongside the backdrop of video footage that documents storms and typhoons. Offering a contemplative space where poetry readings and images of water coalesce, the installation merges marginalised female perspectives of pre-modern Korea with the voices of a younger generation that occupies the future.
